Dr. Coats Named TCC Faculty Member of the Year
8/27/2009 -
Dr. Jesse Coats was named the Texas Chiropractic College Faculty Member of the Year on Aug. 18 as part of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce Salute to Education. TCC President Dr. Richard G. Brassard presented the award to Dr. Coats after the Deer Park Independent School District and San Jacinto College Central honored their top instructors as well.
“I want to thank Dr. Coats for his many years of service, and the excellent job he does every day in preparing TCC’s students to be quality health care providers,” said Dr. Brassard.
Dr. Coats first came to TCC in 1989 as registered pharmacist, ready to teach our students about pharmacology and toxicology. After joining the staff he became interested in the doctor/patient interactions that he witnessed in the TCC clinics; the opportunity to work with a patient and see them recover, instead of just seeing them only when they are ill or in pain. It didn’t take long before he decided to join the chiropractic profession, enrolling as a student at TCC while continuing to teach at the college and lecture on pharmacology at conferences and training programs around the country.
He became Dr. Coats in 1993, graduating with his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. As a student, he was a member of the Omega Psi Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He already had a pair of bachelors’ degrees, one from the University of Houston and another from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Not only does he continue to teach pharmacology & toxicology, Dr. Coats is a valuable instructor in many areas, including the nutrition and clinical diagnosis course he taught during the 2009 summer term.
