TCC Names New Officers and Members to Board of Regents

PASADENA, Texas – Dr. Donald Krippendorf of Tampa, Fla., was elected the new chairman of the Texas Chiropractic College Board of Regents during the officer elections held at the Board’s quarterly meeting on July 19, 2009. The Regents meeting was held in conjunction with TCC’s annual Homecoming activities in Galveston. Four new board members were also added to the ranks.

Dr. Krippendorf has been a member of the Board of Regents since 2005 and has served the previous two years as the vice chairman. Elections were held for all five officer positions. Other new officers are: Vice Chair, Dr. Jack Christie; Treasurer, Larry C. Johnson; Secretary, Dr. John Felker; and At-Large Member, Executive Committee, Dr. Bang Nguyen.  Dr. Nguyen joins Dr. Krippendorf as a returning officer, having served as secretary for the previous four years.

A past president of the American Chiropractic Association, Dr. Krippendorf has been active in the association since being named the Vice President of the ACA’s Council on Neurology in 1991. He was also active in the Florida Chiropractic Association, serving on the board of directors for seven years. He has been licensed in the state of Florida since 1970 and is the founder and owner of Florida Chiropractic Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla.

A 1970 graduate of Texas Chiropractic College, Dr. Christie was student body president and a member of Omega Psi honors fraternity. He has multiple offices in the Houston area and was appointed to the TCC Board of Regents in 2006.  Dr. Christie served on the Texas State Board of Chiropractic Examiners from 1981-87. He was appointed chairman of the Texas State Board of Education by then Gov. George W. Bush, and served in that position from 1995 to 1999.

Johnson, who also joined the TCC Board of Regents in 2006, is the president and CEO of Loomis International, Inc. He is a 1983 graduate of the University of Houston-Clear Lake with a degree in accounting and finance and went to work at Loomis in 1983 as a staff accountant. Johnson then worked his way up the ladder before purchasing the company in 1996. In June 2008, Loomis International was honored by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce as the 2008 Small Business of the Year.

A private practitioner in Sugar Land, Texas, Dr. Felker is a 1968 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. He first joined the TCC Board of Regents in 2004 and has long worked with the College as a member of the preceptorship program. In addition to his multitude of professional affiliations, Dr. Felker is also very involved with a number of civic organizations in Fort Bend County.

Dr. Nguyen has been a board member since 2001 and is a 1995 graduate of the TCC. He is the owner of Huffmeister Family Chiropractic Clinic in Houston, where he has practiced since graduation.

Dr. Krippendorf takes over for long-time board member Johnny Blau, who was first elected to the board in 1997 and served in three different officer positions, including chairman for the last four years. Also leaving the board this year are John Moon, Jr., Dr. Mike DeRouen, Jim Glibert, and Dr. Derrill James.

Four new members were welcomed to the Board of Regents during the July meetings: Robert Mitchell, Dr. Kurt Juergens, Crystal Morrison and Ken Cauthorn.

Mitchell is the president of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership. He began his affiliation with BAHEP in 2000 and served in several capacities. In 2008 he was elected to his present position.

A 1988 graduate of TCC, Dr. Juergens is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. He has worked as a part of sports medicine teams at various karate, aerobic, tae kwon do, and track & field national championships. Dr. Juergens practices in Houston.

Morrison earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 1999. She is currently a program manager of adolescent treatment services with the Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston, and is also a group facilitator and consultant with Covenant House Houston.

Cauthorn is the president of Hampton Tax Group and is also a part owner of Customized Business Strategies. His businesses work primarily with the healthcare industry, especially with doctors of chiropractic, helping small businesses with strategic and financial planning.
