TCC & San Jacinto College Sign Articulation Agreement
1/15/2009 -
PASADENA,
Texas - Texas Chiropractic College (TCC) and San Jacinto College (SJC)
entered into an articulation agreement, which was signed at the
regularly scheduled January meeting of the San Jacinto College Board of
Trustees held Monday, January 12, 2009.
In an effort to allow students to complete the 90 hours that are
required to enter TCC, the agreement between the two colleges aims to
create a seamless transition for SJC students and graduates seeking a
Bachelor of Science degree. The agreement begins immediately. "If
students complete the 90 recommended hours, they will achieve an
Associate of Science in Life Science, and hours toward a certificate in
business management," said SJC Dean of Teaching and Learning, Dr.
Catherine O’Brien. "Not only will they be on their way to earning a
Doctor of Chiropractic, but the certificate will help them when it
comes time to open their practices."
Under the agreement, Texas Chiropractic College will unconditionally
accept students from San Jacinto College if they have met the following
requirements: cumulative GPA of 3.0 overall; 2.5 GPA on prescribed
course\ work; and 90 undergraduate credit hours, including the
prescribed course work. Prerequisite coursework includes eight semester
hours of biological sciences; eight semester hours of general inorganic
chemistry; eight semester hours of organic chemistry; eight semester
hours of general physics; six semester hours of English or
communication skills; three semester hours of psychology; three
semester hours of computer science; and 15 semester hours of social
sciences / humanities electives. TCC encourages students to complete
the associate degree at San Jacinto College before transferring.
"We have been long-standing partners in the community with San
Jacinto College and have regularly welcomed their graduates to our
program," noted Dr. Richard G. Brassard, Texas Chiropractic College
President. "With the signing of this articulation agreement, we are
formalizing that partnership with the hopes of creating even better
doctors and citizens in this community."
The Bachelor of Science program at Texas Chiropractic College offers
an exceptional opportunity for students looking to complete their
undergraduate studies, while at the same time completing a high quality
Doctor of Chiropractic learning experience. TCC¹s bachelor¹s degree
program is designed for students who have completed lower division
course work at an accredited college or university. The program offers
a major in human biology.
